Microsoft Xbox App Update for PC Delivers 60% Faster Startup and Redesigned Interface
Microsoft announced a significant update to its Xbox application for Windows, promising a 60% reduction in startup time alongside a comprehensive visual redesign. The release also introduces structural changes to social navigation and enhances the Xbox Cloud Gaming experience across web browsers and smart devices.
Microsoft has released a major update for its Xbox application on Windows, prioritizing performance acceleration and a complete visual overhaul. The company states that the new version reduces startup time by up to 60% compared to previous iterations.
Beyond the initial launch speed, the update targets core interface responsiveness. Microsoft reports that central pages, including Home, Store, and Game Pass, now load up to 50% faster. Internal application windows have also seen improvements, with response times enhanced by as much as 65%.
The update restructures how users navigate the software. The social section has been integrated directly into the main navigation bar, allowing immediate access to friend lists and social features without switching tabs. Additionally, Microsoft has updated filtering options and introduced new methods for organizing the game library.
Significant changes also affect Xbox Cloud Gaming. A new library tab now centralizes access to titles, whether purchased individually or included in Game Pass, streamlining cloud streaming. The web interface has gained a dedicated Desktop mode optimized for larger screens, along with new contrast options.
While this Windows update is currently distributed exclusively to members of the Xbox Insiders program, Microsoft confirmed that a general public release will follow at a later date. Parallel updates have already extended cloud gaming capabilities to Smart TVs and virtual reality devices, including support for using mobile phones as controllers.
